Europe believes settlement rates ‘far behind’ other regions – expert

Following the announcement from the European Commission that it will not introduce mandatory buy-ins to its Central Securities Depository Regulation (CSDR) unless the rate of settlement failures does not improve, Ramla Soni talks to our head of financial products, Pardeep Cassells, on what this could mean.

 

The proposal clearly indicates that the EC believes European settlement rates are lagging far behind other regions, she says, making the CSDR settlement regime framework more relevant than ever. The EC could also approve an initial buy-in suspension of six months, with a total suspension period of no more than 12, likely disappointing industry participants who expected
